IT Specialists with the system integration specialisation realise customer-specific information and communications services by the integration of hardware and software components into complex systems.

IT Specialists with the system integration specialisation work in companies which provide information and communications technology products and services, e.g. in systems houses but also in other sectors for companies which use the corresponding information and communications technology. They are deployed in departments which are involved with the creation and maintenance of systems and networks.

They work at fixed workstations in the office. Changing work locations directly onsite at the customers are usual for field work.

IT Specialist is a recognised apprenticeship according to the German apprenticeship law (BBiG). It is not assigned to any professional field.

The apprenticeship is provided in companies which provide information and communications technology products and services and in the public sector.

The apprenticeship lasts 3 years.

IT Specialists specialising in system integration plan and configure information and telecommunications technology systems. As an in-house service provider or at the customer, they set up these systems in accordance with the customer requirements and operate and maintain them. In the case of errors occurring, this also includes systematically localising and eliminating errors using modern expert and diagnostics systems.

They advise internal and external users for the selection and installation of the equipment and resolve application and system problems. Their tasks also include the production of system documentation and performing training courses.
