A complete turnkey system measures the magnetic signature of drill collars.
This paper discusses a magnetometer based turnkey testing system that is compliant with the guidelines and specifications of the oilfield industry.
The rigors placed on the directional survey, and therefore on the nonmagnetic drill collars, in deep earth drilling are extremely high. Magnetic impurities in the drill collar can severely affect the direction of drilling and consequently minimize the effectiveness of the drilling operation.
Nondestructive testing is carried out in order to detect magnetic impurities and ferromagnetic inclusions in the drill collar material and ensure that the drill collar does not cause directional interference.
